Sam would be 9 years old today

I can't believe it's been nine years since Sam was stillborn on Valentine's Day 2002.  I hardly have any photos of myself pregnant with Sam, but I did find this one from our Thanksgiving visit to Pensacola in 2001 so I was about 6 months pregnant here. I'm standing next to my sister-in-law and niece Morgan and a friend of the family. I wrote a long post last year, and am not feeling very eloquent today so I thought I would just share the lyrics from a Dixie Chicks song which always makes me think about the little boy that I don't get to watch grow up.

Godspeed (Sweet Dreams)

Dragon tales and the "water is wide"
Pirate's sail and lost boys fly
Fish bite moonbeams every night
And I love you

Godspeed, little man
Sweet dreams, little man
Oh my love will fly to you each night on angels wings
Godspeed
Sweet dreams

The rocket racer's all tuckered out
Superman's in pajamas on the couch
Goodnight moon, will find the mouse
And I love you

Godspeed, little man
Sweet dreams, little man
Oh my love will fly to you each night on angels wings
Godspeed
Sweet dreams

God bless mommy and match box cars
God bless dad and thanks for the stars
God hears "Amen," wherever we are
And I love you

Godspeed, little man
Sweet dreams, little man
Oh my love will fly to you each night on angels wings
Godspeed
Godspeed
Godspeed
Sweet dreams

~Dixie Chicks

Sometimes when I sing along with this song I imagine my words and love flying up to Sam in heaven. Maybe that's a bit sappy, but it helped at the time, and does so even now -- though I don't sing it as often anymore.

So, I am especially thankful for my family at this time of year, particularly for Emma and Jim, and for all my friends who have been there for me.  Thank you all.

Godspeed......
